VARIOM Biotechnology presents at HUGO 2004 in Berlin

VARIOM was a proud participant at this year’s Human Genome Meeting in Berlin.

Speaking at our workshop entitled “SNP Detection with SPOLA - An Enabling Technology for the Future of Genotyping“ were Prof. Ulf Landegren, a co-inventor of the Oligonucleotide Ligation Assay, and Dr. Michael Kabesch, an expert in population genetics.

Dr. Kabesch reported his experience with VARIOM’s SPOLA in his work to uncover the genetics of asthma. In a study involving greater than 20,000 genotypings from over 1000 samples, Dr. Kabesch compared SPOLA with three other popular methods (RFLP, Allele-specific PCR and MALDI-TOF). Dr. Kabesch praised SPOLA technology, ranking it first for reliability, economy and flexibility.

VARIOM announces the formation of its Scientific Advisory Board

VARIOM is pleased to announce the formation of its Scientific Advisory Board.

Joining the board from the Department of Genetics & Pathology at the University of Uppsala is Prof. Ulf Landegren, the co-inventor of the Oligonucleotide Ligation Assay (OLA). Prof. Landegren brings to VARIOM years of research experience in both academia and industry and his expertise in mutation detection technologies. As the co-inventor of the OLA, Prof. Landegren is ideally suited to provide advice on VARIOM’s Solid-Phase Oligonucleotide Ligation Assay (SPOLA.)

Dr. Michael Kabesch joins the Board from the University Children’s Hospital in Munich. Dr. Kabesch is an expert in the genetics of complex diseases, in particular childhood asthma and allergy. Dr. Kabesch has practical experience with VARIOM’s SPOLA assay in his laboratory and will therefore provide valuable advice on end-user demands and experiences.

The aim of the Scientific Advisory Board is provide VARIOM access to cutting-edge researchers whose work involves the technical and medical aspects of genotyping. VARIOM hopes to gain an insight of the demands and unmet needs in scientific community and how best these could be matched with our technological capabilities.
